Chinese drone maker EHang to provide Dubai with world's first self-flying taxis this summer!

Soon we will all be living in the Jetsons thanks to Chinese drone maker EHang who will be supplying the city of Dubai with the world's first passenger-carrying drone service.

At the World Government Summit in Dubai on Wednesday, Mattar al-Tayer, the head of Dubai's Roads and Transportation Agency, announced that in July the EHang 184 will begin "regular operations" as the world's most badass taxi cab.

The EHang 184 can carry a single person along with a small suitcase for 30 minutes on a single charge, traveling a maximum of 50km and reaching a peak altitude of 3.5km. It was unveiled last January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, sparking interest about what its future applications might be.

Since it's a drone, there is no pilot. Instead, passengers simply step inside, input their destination on the touchpad and off they zoom, "auto-piloted" and monitored by a ground command center.

Of course, this means that if something does go wrong, passengers will not be able to manually operate the drone. But not to worry, in case of any problem the EHang 184 is programmed to land immediately at the nearest safe location.
